Jānis Baumanis // World RX
Name: Jānis Baumanis
Date of birth: 15.06.1992.
Team: TEAM STARD
Car: Ford Fiesta
Jānis Baumanis kicked off his motorsport career in crosskarts at the age of 15 before trying his hand at rallycross for the first time in 2008 in the NEZ Rallycross Championship. Over the next two seasons Baumanis won two championship titles in his native Latvia and one Baltic championship title, following it up with European Super1600 and Estonian Rallycross Supercar titles in 2015.
Following a handful of World RX Supercar starts in 2014 and 2015, Baumanis received a full season campaign in 2016 as part of the World RX Team Austria outfit, securing a best finish of fourth place in Barcelona. A move to Team STARD for 2017 yielded a popular run to the final on home soil in Latvia, as well as a season’s best fifth place and 12th overall. In 2018 Baumanis continued to drive at the wheel of the Ford Fiesta with Team STARD, qualifying for 9 semi-final races, and a sole Final appearance, which was finished with a Bang – Jānis Baumanis is currently the only Latvian to have received a Monster Energy Supercharge Award, for the best reaction time at the start of the final in Canada. At the end of the season Jānis found himself 9th overall.
2019 will mark the third season with Team STARD, which managed to secure a technical support from Ford Performance, giving high hopes for increased competitiveness of the car.
Reinis Nitišs // Euro RX // Supercar
Name: Reinis Nitišs
Date of birth: 16.12.1995.
Team: GRX Taneco
Car: Hyundai i20
Reinis Nitišs began his motorsport career in karting at the age of seven. By the age of 13, he had secured Latvian and Baltic titles. In the following years Nitišs moved to rallycross and by 2012, he had won the Estonian, Baltic and NEZ championships. In 2013, Nitišs campaigned his first full season of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in the Super 1600 class and brought home the title by winning six out of nine races.
In 2014 Nitišs moved to headline World RX Supercar category with Ford Olsbergs MSE and finished the year third overall. For 2016, Nitišs joined the German ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport to compete full-time, before ending the season competing for OMSE. In 2017, Nitišs joined the EKS team of Mattias Ekstrom to end the season 14th overall. This season Nitišs has switched to Euro RX to drive an M-Sport built Ford Fiesta prepared by Set Promotion. The smaller number of events makes it possible for Nitišs to try his hand at other motorsports disciplines – touring car racing, rallying and buggy racing. Though, it did not mess around with rallycross – winning 3 out of 5, Nitišs spectacularly grabbed European Championship title in Supercar category. Moreover, the deciding points and final victory came in his home race in Latvia, at CSDD Bikernieki Circuit.
2019 marks a new way for Nitišs, as he returns to World RX, in a role of development driver for GRX Taneco. And while it means that most of the work will be done away from our eyes, he promised a couple of World RX races in 2019.
